Testing for Toxic Toys Saturday February 9, 2008 WTNH News Channel 8

Hartford (WTNH) _ Some of the most popular toys have been pulled off store shelves, but parents are still worried about the ones their kids are playing with at home.

That's why many turned up today in Hartford for a free toy test.

Dozens of kids showed up with dolls, board games and even sippy cups to be tested by the Connecticut Coalition for Environmental Justice.

A hand held-analyzer is placed directly on the toy and it gives a reading in 30 seconds.  The device is able to measure for  26 elements including lead.

Recent recalls of toys containing high levels of lead spurred many parents to show up for today's event.
